About Mako

I'm Jon, a Taiwanese-American millennial who likes to run and lift everyday. Most days you'll find me training for either a marathon or a Spartan Race, so I regularly chug protein shakes for proper recovery. I know first hand how unpleasant they can taste.

Protein shakes shouldn’t feel like a compromise.

After my daily workouts, I struggled to find a protein shake I enjoyed. They were either too chalky, too sweet, or too artificial. And every brand seemed stuck on vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry. With so many untapped flavors, why do protein shakes feel like a chore to drink?

So I decided to make my own.

I had the idea to create a milk tea flavored protein shake. Milk tea is the signature flavor when it comes to boba tea beverages, and it’s a flavor I grew up with as the child of Taiwanese immigrants. For months, I iterated on a formula that balanced flavor and protein with carefully selected ingredients. That’s how Mako was born. With the help of my wife and friends, I refined the formula until I knew I created something I could enjoy every day.

Mako's mission: to make protein a better tasting habit through Asian-inspired flavors. As someone who makes fitness a daily habit, I know finding high-quality, delicious protein shakes can be challenging.
